St. John’s Co-Cathedral

General Maintenance Ltd. (GML) was entrusted with the fabrication and installation of structural steel support works as part of the roof restoration project at St. John’s Co-Cathedral, one of Malta’s most iconic and historically significant landmarks.

Working on a UNESCO-recognized site presented unique challenges that required precision, heritage sensitivity, and strict coordination with conservation authorities. GML was responsible for designing and fabricating a custom steel support system that would reinforce the cathedral’s roofing while respecting the structural limitations and architectural integrity of the centuries-old building.

• Fabrication of custom steel frames and support elements designed to integrate seamlessly with the cathedral’s original masonry.

• On-site assembly and installation carried out with minimal disruption and under continuous oversight to meet conservation requirements.

• Application of corrosion-resistant treatments to ensure longevity without compromising heritage aesthetics.
